Electric cars and solar power dominate the public mindset as the solution to renewable and sustainable processes. They are interesting and I have posted on both topics. However, at heart, I am a Chemical Engineer. I have a passion for solving problems and I get excited when I see these solutions being proposed.
A big way that Chemical Engineers are doing this is through finding renewable ways to produce common chemicals. What is great about these processes is that they are profitable. It is not enough to simply find a reaction that makes the desired product, you need that reaction to produce money. This is why I love engineering, it is always searching for a solution that is the best of both worlds. I am so excited to join those already looking for these solutions.
Recently in class, I got to share one of these solutions with my peers. I gave them an academic poster presentation on the work done by Amanda C. Garcia, Carlos Sánchez-Martínez, Ivan Bakker, and Earl Goetheer with tartaric acid. To see why I get excited about being an engineer, watch the video of my presentation below.
Feel free to leave me any questions on my presentation in the comments. I enjoy talking about this topic.
